Hugo the Starfish-The Bully Review

Running a family, let alone a daycare, means having to teach Character education to a variety of ages constantly.  That's why I'm always looking for learning tools that will help me achieve this goal.  I think that a children's book about bullying is a great tool for this exact goal.

Mommy Moments with Abby's review of Hugo the Happy Starfish: the Last Bully:  This book is a great book that shows how even bullies can get bullied and their is no last bully.  It outlines for children how they can make a difference in bullying however by teaming up and demanding respect from these bullies.  There is always something you can do against bullying and even if it's just getting a teacher or telling someone else about it, anyone can help make a difference.  It seems as though recently bullying in schools has spread and been more of a topic that needs to be addressed than in the past.  It is important as parents for us to utilize tools like this book to help teach our children how not to bully and how to get help if they see or experience bullying.  During the story I asked the children who they thought was the bully and why?  Adding questions like this to the story helped really get the message of respect across to the children.  Other questions I asked where: What would you do if you were the other fish? Who would you talk to about this?  If someone does something like this what do you do?  What could the bully fish do differently instead of bullying?  This helps them think creatively and develop their own methods of working with others.  I really enjoyed this story and the kids had a blast getting to try to help the characters out with ways to avoid bullying.

The book is available - like the first Hugo book THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS - IN 7 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES THROUGH AMAZON EBOOKS.
